Uniform Guidelines
North Bergen Schools must be an environment in which work can be accomplished by adults and students. Students' dress will fall within the following guidelines in order to create an orderly setting, in which teaching and learning can occur with as few visual distractions as possible.
The school administrator will make the final decision about whether an article of clothing or style of dress falls outside of these guidelines.

Shirts:
- Burgundy color uniform polo shirt with distict logo. Only top button should remain unfastened.
- Shirts should be tucked in at all times
- Shirts should be sized to fit, neither skin-tight, nor over sized to the point of being overly baggy, i.e. one size larger than current student's size
- Shirts should have no holes, tears or shredded hemlines.
- Appropriate pants are solid khaki or black cotton twill
- Waistline can be elastic or snap/zipper closure.
- Pants should be sized to fit - neither skin tight, nor over-sized to the point of sagging and dragging the ground or floor
- Pants should have no holes, tears or shredded hemlines
- From June 1 through October 1 seasonal waling shorts in solid khaki or black color, that touch the top of the knees (when standing) are allowed.
- Black sweatpants with uniform shirt, are allowed on students' gym day ONLY
- We strongly recommend a second pair of black sweatpants to be kept at school as a change of clothing if the child has an accident.
- Appropriate pants are solid khaki or black cotton twill
- Pants should be sized to fit - neither skin tight, nor over-sized to the point of sagging and dragging the ground or floor
- Pants should have no holes, tears or shredded hemlines
- From June 1 through October 1 seasonal waling shorts in solid khaki or black color, that touch the top of the knees (when standing) are allowed.
- Pants/Shorts/Skorts may be purchased at any store that sells black or khaki cotton twill bottoms (Old Navy, Target, Walmart, Khols, etc.)
- No outside labels should be seen and must be removed.
- Black sweatpants with uniform shirt, are allowed on students' gym day ONLY
- Girls in grades 1 through 8 may wear skorts year round. Skorts are to be worn with solid-color tights for cold weather, and with socks or knee-high hose in warm weather.
- Skorts must be solid color khaki or black cotton twill material.
- For those adhering to religious dress codes, a long skirt in either khaki or black twill is acceptable year round. Parents must send confirmation in writing by the first day of school.
- Closed-toe, rubber soled shoes/sneakers are appropriate
- Boots are acceptable in cold or inclement weather
- Pants must cover boots when student is inside the school building
- Coats, jackets and outerwear, including hooded clothing or "hoodies", shawls, ponchos and raincoats cannot be worn inside the school building after morning announcements
- Students will only be allowed to wear the burgundy non-hooded fleece covering with district logo in school
- The covering must be sized to fit over the polo shirt, however not over-sized to the point of being baggy or excessively long in length
- Belts must be worn in grades 3 through 8 on pants/walking shorts with belt loops
- Belts should be brown or black in color
- Belt buckles that have inappropriate logos or figures/designs are not allowed
- Hats, bandanas, head gear, sweatbands, stocking caps, do-rags, grills, sunglasses, and other distracting apparel or accessories may not be worn in the school building
- If a student is noted as wearing any of these, the enforcement policy will be the same as non-uniform compliance
- Headscarves will be permitted for students who are adhering to religious dress codes. Parents must send confirmation in writing by the first day of school
